The Night Agent, Series Three

The reason this seems to have come along really quickly is it took me ages to watch series two as I thought it would be irritating retread of series one, and it wasn't really.  This was ten episodes of hokum, but it was enjoyable hokum (with a great D&D reference) and it perhaps said something I binged on this because all episodes dropped at once, as opposed to maybe half a dozen other series I'm watching one episode a week of (and perhaps enjoying less as a result).

Small Prophets

Not as good as it's supposed to be. No moral compunction/regret in killing the prophets (and clearly they had feelings because they were scared when the nasty person shouted and when that lady screamed and desired freedom and were prepared to fight for it).   So let's just kill them off in one move and that's ok then. Not funny enough.

Gideon Falls v4, v5

Best way to describe this book at this stage is shit gets weird(er). Neither book are a jumping on point, overall plot seems to be becoming a bit clearer though and it's a nice touch that the Black Barn is perhaps a prison for the big bad holding it secure, and so when it explodes....

Gideon Falls, v3

Weirdly now that we feel we have a grasp of what the Black Barn is and its occupant, the story feels somewhat more pedestrian!   Like it's playing out the beats of multiple worlds/timelines and characters are encountering each other in different combinations but surprises....not many. Strange.

The Yes/No Game, Series One

German TV show with the odd bit of English thrown in, most notably the title.  Good fun!

Fallout, Series 2

Poor start, improved ending, not as good as S1 but inspiring enough to want to play Fallout 4 again...after ten years away from it

Gideon Falls v2

Good continuation, not as obscure as first thought...

Gideon Falls v1

This is the third time attempting this series and this time it seems like it will stick -- noticed some things I don't recall seeing before, and generally a lot more engaged with it rather than just "WTF"

King's Dilemma, Story 3

Another enjoyable romp through this customised CYOA, interesting choices and fueling a desire for the sequel game to be played with a proper group....

Cozy StickerVille, Board One, Year Two

And it's only year two and already the decisions are piling up -- just twelve turns to play through and far more things I want to do than I have the time to do...particularly as "bad" events need dealing with lest they hit the village at year end. Do we spend resources early or save them to near the end of the year in case disaster hits late?   Which of the many many options do we prioritise?  Do we try to rush a project through or accept it will be a multi-year deal...and events may supercede it and render all efforts so far irrelevant? Tricky tricky tricky. Plan for year three is to feed the people from the Silo, push the Lodge once or twice if possible, and either woo the farmer or sort the blasted (literally) tree.  Let's see how that goes. Oh. And build a house for the new people banging on our door. And maybe some more fishing. And And And

The Nobody

Much better. Done in one tale, a riff on The Invisible Man, sure -- following many same beats, but in Lemire inimitable style, fast read but hugely enjoyable and a subtle question mark at the end perhaps?

Vantage, Game One

Complex but ok -- lots of moving parts, better with more space to spread out, but a good story created in taking the Navigator character and leaning into this skill.  Upgrading character is a must, and recognising that some missions are just not possible, allowing this run to end with a Destiny Goal completion in building a shelter and settling down. Good fun!

Codex Regenesis

Lovely book, nicely presented, great use of papercraft -- only five puzzles, but they are exceptional and all AH HA inducing.   Excellent!

King's Dilemma, Story 2

Interesting CYOA diversion, although slightly shorter than story 1 with more choices which lead to the same effect.  There's more here in the way of lasting effects for the main game, ongoing legacy impacts which hint at quite interesting mechanics.

Cozy StickerVille, Board One, Year One

Absolute ton of sticker work to kick off with, and building a load of possible actions with not enough time to do them all -- and no idea of what waits in store (like life) or what should be prioritised.  This runthrough I'm going to lean into the Farming aspect, specifically the fruit/plants side of things and see how it goes, although already suspect I might be leaning into Food too much as there seems to be a shed load of it on the board...and it's only Year One. Interesting choices, be good to see how they play out.

JOURNAL 29

63 puzzles of varying degrees of difficulty and annoyance. Some are brilliant and a real pleasure to solve. Some are frustrating as heck and require illogical leaps or knowledge. Overall, pretty satisfying.

Doctor Who Magazine 626

Still a letdown. More -- much more -- too much more -- on the War between land and sea. Best article was a promotion one on the season 21 box set. comic strip was not the best thing in years (well it might be as most of them have been crap) it was another level of crap and just plain boring. Fact of Fiction I normally like but it was a Matt Smith episode and I remembered precisely nothing of it. Weird. I remember the Tom Baker and Peter Davison stories vividly, even after just one watch. Chris Ecclestone likewise. David Tennant, most of them. Matt Smith -- almost nothing. Curious.

Love & Rockets: Life Drawing

Slightly disappointing, mainly because this Tonta character is really not that interesting.  I want stories of Maggie and Hopey, of Ray and (to a lesser extent) the cast; but where the focus is others and these guys are just making cameo appearances it feels like a lesser work.

King's Dilemma, Story 1

Eight quid for effectively just the cards (could easily chuck the rest of it as being irrelevant), a couple of quid for some replacement envelopes, an enjoyable sorting session resetting everything back in the right place and then....the board game is converted to a six chapter choose your own adventure. Each route is effectively its own game, taking an appropriate amount of time, and very good to explore through the story paths -- first path, about foreign incursions on the northern border and how to deal with it, the three possible endings to the story and how that impacts your nation, the decisions along the way...very good!

Love & Rockets: Is This How You See Me?

Quite an ominous title but fortunately isn't lived up to by the book -- more gentle overall perhaps than the previous volume, it's lovely to spend time in the company of our pals here.

Night Manager, Series 2

Didn't realise this was actually part one of the second story -- second part, season three, to follow probably in 2027 or 2028. Ending of this series makes sense in context of there being another six episodes to go or thereabouts, but as I thought it was going to be the end of the series there was a real possibility -- except for the last five minutes -- that everything would go to plan with nary a hitch. Whoops.

Love & Rockets: The Love Bunglers

Wanted this in Hardback -- what a superior read. Can certainly see some parallels between this and the Paul series, particularly a late car crash or incident which shifts gears right at the, ahem, death.
